Furry First Friday...

Welcome to Furry First Friday! This month I thought I would share photos of my dog, Wally, since his birthday is this month. Believe it or not, he was born on Halloween, which has always seemed to suit. As a rule, Wally is generally suspicious of people (and other dogs, as you can see him giving Abby the eye in that top photo) and fairly grouchy. But as you can see above, he's got an adorable smile when he chooses to flash it. He will be 12 this month; he went gray about a half-dozen years ago, which we think gives him a slightly more distinguished look.
Furry First Fridays is hosted on the first Friday of each month by moi. All are welcome to join; all you need to do is link back here and add your post link to the Linky tool at the bottom of this post. It would be great if you would grab the Furry First Friday button, too, which you can find in my sidebar.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend, full of lots of love from our furry friends!

Wishing for the beauty of cooler, rainy days...

After a summer here that can only be described as a non-summer (we only made it above 80 degrees for about two weeks total) autumn has finally arrived. And wouldn't you know it ~ the weather now feels like summer. It's been unbearably hot all of a sudden, well over 90 degrees and into the 100s. Good beach weather but not any fun during the workweek, especially when you have no air conditioning. All I can think is please, please, let it cool down soon. Let the marine layer come back and sit and give us those beautiful, solemn cloudy days I love. I want to wear my fall clothes, enjoy a few rainy days and watch the leaves fall from the trees in the front yard. This is my wish today... sigh.
Thanks to Kathie at Just a Happy Housewife for hosting Wishes for Wednesday. What are you wishing for this week? Link up at Kathie's place.

Kathie also tagged her followers in a getting to know you meme, so I thought I'd share that today, too, for a little Wednesday fun...

What was the first car you drove?
A 1978 Camaro, nicknamed "The Bomb" because it was so awful. (I know "the bomb" means something is good or cool now, but back then, it didn't.) The red color had faded to orange and someone had actually painted the interior - twice. I know this because the paint was peeling. And the ceiling fabric kept falling down.

Who is your favorite author?
This is impossible for me. I love to read so much and my interests are varied - mysteries, biographies, history, home and gardening books. I have several authors that I absolutely love, all for different reasons: Martha Grimes, Elizabeth George, Jacqueline Winspear, Agatha Christie, Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Crusie, Ernest Hemingway, Sarah Ban Breathnach...

Do you collect anything? If so, what?
Dishes. Old ones, mostly. I'm a sucker for orphan tea cups. I used to collect bookmarks but I rarely add to the collection these days.

What is your favorite vacation destination?
Edisto, off the South Carolina coast.

What season is your favorite? What is it about that season that you like best?
Autumn. I love the cooler weather, digging out warm clothes, pumpkins, apples, mums, the colorful leaves, the urge I get to start baking again, the cups of hot tea and warm apple cider. It's just a beautiful time of year.

What song can you listen to over and over and never get tired of hearing?
Anything by Stevie Nicks or Bruce Springsteen. I love the Great American Songbook collection, too. I could listen to all of those songs each day. And Cleo Laine singing "When the World Was Young" at the end of The Last of the Blonde Bombshells - beautiful.

At what age did you receive your first kiss?
Sixth grade, I think. A game of Spin the Bottle at a birthday party.

What fast food restaurant is your favorite?
Chick-fil-A

Anyone who wants to play along - tag, you're it. Happy Wednesday. :)

Some new fall finds...

The change in seasons offers a chance to rejuvenate the home. The other day I had to run into Wal-Mart (which I normally avoid like the plague) and happened upon some really cute items for fall. I completely fell for the luncheon plates and the leaf dishes ~ so cute, so inexpensive, such an easy way to add a little autumn color to our days. Then I noticed this lovely limited edition fall blanket from Better Homes & Gardens. I really love the plum and the reds and fall patterns. I decided it would help warm up my sweetie's favorite brown leather couch (not really my taste, but he likes it). So, a trip I wasn't looking forward to yielded some lovely fall finds that are now adding a little seasonal beauty to our home. You just never know...

Welcome, autumn...

My favorite season is here once again. The nights are drawing in, the shorter days signaling a time to rest and regroup. Re-light the homefires and strive for a slightly slower pace. Think apple pies, hot cider, beautiful colors, brisk walks, boots, afternoons under a cozy blanket with a book, pumpkins, mums ~ pure bliss.
Ah, autumn...

A wish come true... The Victoria Classics Rooms of Bliss magazine does exist!

Over the long Labor Day weekend, I went to visit friends in the Carolinas. We all love to window shop and at some point, ended up in a bookstore. As I was perusing the magazines, I saw "Victoria Classics" peeking out from behind some others. I nearly yelled I was so excited. (Yes, I am a bit of a dork at times.) I had been hearing rumors about this new publication ~ a compilation of beautiful rooms from the original Victoria magazine ~ but I had not been able to find it at my local bookstores. I was beginning to doubt its existence (and my sanity) when it magically appeared ~ on the opposite coast from where I live. To the lovers of the original Victoria magazine, this is like a visit from an old friend. As I've said before, the new Victoria magazine is nice, but it's missing something, not that it stops me from subscribing. This special publication is little trip back in time, though. It is absolutely lovely and on sale until October, if you can find it.
Since my wish of finding this magazine came true, I am linking to Wishes for Wednesday at Just a Happy Housewife. Stop by Kathie's place for more Wishes for Wednesday posts or to join in.
Wishing all of you a lovely Wednesday, full of beauty...

It's a blue Monday...

It really is a blue Monday for me today. Blah. I worked soooo hard over the weekend - cleaning my house, getting things ready for fall, doing laundry, switching out seasonal clothes, bathing dogs, etc. I even cleaned the oven - alas, it had to be done by hand. It feels wonderful to have everything set to rights again in my home (and closet) but I wish I had a day off to recover - you know, stay home and read, knit a little, nap. Since I was feeling a little blue anyway, I thought I might as well find a few blues to perk me up.
Here's to a (hopefully) lovely and relaxing week...

Thanks to Smiling Sally for hosting Blue Monday each week. Stop by her blog for lots more blue love.

Ooh la la... a beautiful new magazine

Later this month, a beautiful new e-magazine comes into being. The premiere issue of Belle Inspiration launches Sept. 15. The new publication is the brainchild of fellow blogger Mimi at Bonjour Romance.
I am happy to be one of the contributors to the premiere issue ~ a story on a popular Australian blogger who turned her passion into a business. If you are a fan of Beach Vintage, or are interested in doing the same thing yourself, I think you'll enjoy. (I also contributed the photo of pink cupcakes and roses currently on the homepage, as seen above.)
Please visit the Belle Inspiration website to check out this new e-magazine and consider subscribing ~ there is plenty of beauty and inspiration to enchant. I believe it's a magazine that Pink Saturday lovers will find particularly interesting and lovely.
As always, thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday. Stop by her place for a complete list of this week's participants or to learn how to join. Have a lovely weekend, all.

Furry First Friday...

Happy Furry First Friday!
This month I thought I would share pictures of my youngest boy, Nicholaus, since his birthday is this month. On Sept. 12, he will be 11 years old, which I can't believe! When we rescued him from the pound, he was so tiny he fit in one hand and should not have even been away from his mother. He's grown up to be a great dog, very protective and lovable and handsome. Really, Nick is just an overgrown lap dog. What he lacks in brains, he more than makes up for in love and cuteness. (And really, he is not the brightest bulb in the pack, but he means well.)
Furry First Fridays is hosted on the first Friday of each month by moi. All you need to do to join is link back here and add your post to the linky tool at the bottom. It would be great if you would grab the Furry First Friday button, too.
Just a note ~ I will be out of town over the weekend (my flight leaves early Friday) and may or may not have Internet access for a couple days. If anyone has any trouble linking up, please leave your link in your comment and I'll add them as soon as I can. I'll be around to visit everyone on Monday. I love seeing everyone's pets. :)
Thanks so much for joining in. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, full of lots of furry love.
