The beauty of decorating with pink...

Is there anything more wonderful than decorating with the color pink? Apparently I’m not the only person who thinks the answer to this question is no.
I absolutely love decorating books (and cookbooks, novels, biographies ~ well, just books in general) and a good friend surprised me with this one at Christmas. It is one of the House Beautiful series of decorating books and it’s simply called “Pink”. When I saw it, I was like, “how did I miss this book?” Turns out it is fairly new and I just hadn’t seen it yet. I am so glad my friend took a chance and bought it for me. It’s wonderful ~ full of beautiful rooms and ideas and lots of reasons why pink is perfect for decorating.
I highly recommend it for all the pink lovers.

Some pretty pinks...

Just a few snapshots of some of the pretty pinks around the house lately. May they inspire you to add a bit more pink to your life.

Just remember...

I am linking to Pink Saturday at How Sweet the Sound.

A bit of snow & ice...

We have spent the last couple days alternating between ice, freezing rain and snow, like much of the East Coast. Luckily, we are on the southern edge of the storm, so we have not gotten a foot or more of snow like my relatives up north.
You can see our neighborhood has just a nice little dusting of snow, though we did get a bit of ice, which caused problems. Everything shut down on Friday, including my work.

Miss Emily decided to go exploring in the back yard this morning to see what she had been missing. As you can see above and below, Tilly toughed out the storm in her weather gear.

Those little places of untouched snow are so pretty, aren’t they? Stay warm, everyone.

A new obsession...

I am extremely late to the Outlander party. Unlike many people, I had never read the novels written by Diana Gabaldon, although I had several friends talk about them and recommend them over the years. A good friend had given me the first novel in the series for my birthday and I had read bits and pieces of it ~ to be honest, every time I picked it up and randomly opened to a chapter (trying to decide if I really wanted to devote time to reading it) I found myself compulsively turning pages. And that also worried me, because I knew the series had a number of books and they were quite long ~ I seriously didn’t know if I wanted to get pulled in. Then a few weeks ago, the same friend insisted I sit down with her and watch the Outlander television show on Starz. A few episodes in and I was hooked ~ I binge-watched the entire first season, both parts. And that, as they say, was that. I had to read the books. I am reading Dragonfly in Amber now and yesterday I went out and bought Voyager and Drums of Autumn. I can’t seem to put these books down.
I also picked up this bookmark ~ it seemed appropriate for the series.

Have any of you read these books? Did you find yourself compulsively turning the pages, too?

The beauty of Tumblr...

Sometimes you try something and it just doesn’t quite work out. And then, later, you try again and it suddenly does. That was the case with me and Tumblr.
As many of you know, in addition to this blog, I have another one called The Pink Home. I also have a number of social media accounts under The Pink Home name, so I’m pretty easy to find and follow if you are so inclined. A few months ago, I decided to dip my toe back into the world of Tumblr, which is a whole different blogging experience (and audience). I decided to focus on simply sharing gorgeous photography that followed my aesthetic ~ both as an inspiration to myself and possibly for others. I think of my Tumblr blog, which I have named Living Beautifully, as my eye candy blog. And it is nothing more than me sharing photographs ~ some of my own, and others ~ that appeal to my sense of beauty.
Here you can see a sampling of some of my posts. I hope you will follow me if you are on Tumblr; you can find me under thepinkhome. Click here to view my blog.

Sewing project: A pretty pillow sham...

This past autumn I had the opportunity to do something I have always wanted: learn to sew. I have shared a few of my projects and wanted to share this one because it turned out beautifully (well, except for the mistake on the back, but that’s hidden). This is a pillow sham I made, with braided trim around the edges. It was one of the harder projects to do because of the trim, though of course after it was done, I thought, oh, that wasn’t so bad.
I particularly liked the fabric I chose for this ~ it’s quite striking. Just looking at it makes me smile. Creating beautiful, simple things that make you happy is a wonderful way to add beauty to the everyday.
What do you think?

A room to love...

Sharing a photo from the inspiration files. Couldn’t you just spend hours in this room? I simply love the built-in bookcases and the window seat. And the room is so light and airy, too ~ completely inviting.
Just sharing because I love it so much.

New year, new thoughts...

Happy New Year, everyone! Thank you all for continuing to read & peruse my blog. I have a few changes in store for the coming year. Since I have pretty much wrapped up my house decorating project, and have made great progress on our yard, I thought I would write a bit more about other things. There will be more on creativity, finding inspiration, rooms I love, books I’ve discovered ~ all things that have appeared here occasionally over the years, but now you’ll see more of them. I have tweaked the design of my blog as well to better reflect this.
Like everything in life, blogs should evolve with the writer’s interests and goals and my renewed goal in life is to focus on the beauty in the everyday. So that’s what I’ll be sharing with you. But don’t worry ~ you’ll still find plenty on my latest decorating and gardening adventures.
Here’s to a wonderful new year.
