Snow day...

Or I should say “ice day.” We had a winter storm hit overnight, shutting down absolutely everything, including the firm where I work, mostly because the roads are covered with ice and quite treacherous.  Right now everything is in the process of starting to melt, only to refreeze again tonight.
Miss Emily, however, is not one too bothered by winter weather. With her favorite hoodie and snow boots on ~ pink, of course ~ she was quite happy to explore the yard this morning.

Everything is coated in ice, even my poor gardenia.

But I have to admit, Miss Emily in her winter gear brightens everything.

A little romance...

For Valentine’s Day, I put together a little romantic treasury on Etsy ~ items that conveyed the romance of life and good old-fashioned love. Click here to view the treasury, with live links to each listing.

Pretty tea things on the sideboard...

Switching out displays or vignettes is one of my favorite pastimes. I can spend hours happily puttering about the house, playing with pretty things, looking for ways to switch things up a bit.
My dining room sideboard often gets this treatment. Many times I use the seasons for inspiration; sometimes it’s just whatever strikes my fancy. I have been drinking a lot of tea lately (more than usual, I mean), so I thought I would get out some of my favorite tea dishes and set them up on the sideboard.
Also, I wanted to display the beautiful antique tray I got for Christmas from a dear friend. You can see it there in the middle. If you look at the close-up photo, you can see all the lovely detail. (You can also see the area where the finish on my sideboard got messed up thanks to a bar I set up there during a party. But oh well ~ imperfection adds character.)

This plate and matching tea cup I bought years ago at Biltmore, along with the blue set next to it. The blue pattern is actually the same pattern the Vanderbilt’s used. The bright teal and pink set is one of my favorites because the colors are so bright and cheerful, and yet the dishes are very classic.

My favorite all-in-one set. I just love how this little set looks like spring. Below you can get another look at my antique tray.

And now I think I need another cup of tea. Wishing all of you a lovely day...

Cheerful tulips on a winter's day...

I know the groundhog said six more weeks of winter, but finding tulips in the stores always makes me think spring can’t be far behind. I am looking forward to watching these tulips open and come into their own over the next few days ~ they’re so bright and cheerful. Have you found tulips where you live yet?

The latest additions to my bookshelf...

In my last post, I mentioned I had some new additions to my bookshelf. You know I can’t resist a good decorating book and these are all absolutely wonderful. A couple of these I have had for awhile (one was a gift), but the rest I just bought.

They are currently on my coffee table while I finish perusing through them. I’m sure it will take a few months to soak them all in.
