Goodbye, summer...

Summer is finally winding down and I am looking forward to autumn’s arrival in a few days. Of course, that means there will be no more blooms like this, but autumn brings its own beauty.
Wishing everyone a lovely last summer weekend...

The Weekly Want...

Gorgeous gray, with touches of beige and metallics – isn’t this a beautiful bedroom? It has that glamour and sophistication level that I love. I want, I want.

Kitchen flowers...

Sometimes I have an abundance of flowers in the house. When that happens, I always try to see if any of them would look good in the kitchen. There’s something about pretty flowers sitting on the kitchen counter that I think is surprising and inviting at the same time.
Do any of you ever put bouquets of flowers in your kitchen?
Wishing all of you a lovely week...

Introducing The Weekly Want...

I have been thinking about starting a new feature here for a while now. I see beautiful rooms, furniture, gardens and other things all the time and wanted a better way to share them with you. These are images you see that make you think, “Oooh, I want that,” so I have decided to call it The Weekly Want. Think of it as a wish-list to the Universe. I may even turn it into a link-up if people are interested in joining.
To start it off, I am sharing this image from Veranda magazine of a fabulous dining room. This room is so elegant and I love the bit of Art Deco flair with the curved panes in the cupboards and the black lacquer table. I love the color scheme, too, which resembles the color scheme in my own dining room. (The pink flowers are, naturally, the perfect finishing touch in my book.) I have been looking at this picture for a couple of months now thinking I have to find a way to do this in either my next house or someone else’s home. I’m like a little kid ~ I want, I want.
Wishing all of you a lovely week...

The beauty of rustic pottery...

Our town has a pottery center that sells pottery created by local artists. I finally had time to stop in one day recently, just to have a look around, and came out with several wonderful pieces. While I am quite girly and feminine in most of my tastes, I like my pottery a bit rustic.
The man who created these pieces happened to be working in the shop that day, so I had a chance to meet him and talk for a bit about his work, which I absolutely loved. I wound up coming home with a couple of mugs ~ perfect for some hot apple cider or a cup of hot tea this autumn ~ a little tea bag holder and a sugar bowl. I also fell in love with this little round casserole dish, which has turned out to be perfect for making macaroni and cheese for two.

I can’t wait for cooler weather so I can sit on the porch with a friend and enjoy something hot out of these beautiful mugs.
Wishing all of you a lovely day...

The beauty of birthday flowers...

If there is one thing that makes getting another year older more pleasant, it is birthday flowers.
My husband brought me these roses for my birthday last week ~ aren’t they lovely? I quite like the splashes of purple and rustic touches.
I seem to have missed most of July and August here, only being able to post sporadically as things got a little crazy. I am so happy that everything seem to have finally calmed down (knock on wood) and I can get back to my hobbies. I have missed visiting all of you and seeing what you are up to ~ I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer.
I, for one, will be glad to see summer go. It has been miserably hot and humid off and on for weeks and this week looks to be just as bad. Thank goodness it’s September; autumn can’t come soon enough.
While I have been busy with work this summer, my husband has been working on redoing our yard, laying a new sidewalk and putting up a picket fence. I’ll have pictures to show you soon.
Wishing all of you a lovely Labor Day here in the States...
