Beautiful pink roses...

You know I love to photograph flowers and roses in particular. These beautiful pink roses made a lovely subject so I thought I would share.
Wishing all of you a beautiful day...

The beauty of a good book...

A lot of people think of summer as a time for reading ~ you know, summer reading lists for your vacations, etc. ~ but I find I read more when the weather starts to cool down. A good book, a cup of tea and a blanket are all I need to while away a chilly afternoon. The latest from Jacqueline Winspear and the classic Testament of Youth are currently on my list. What are you reading?

Time to start on fall gardening...

Since it’s nearly mid-September, it’s time to start on my fall garden plans. Before I do, though, I wanted to show you these photographs of my limelight hydrangea, which has gone a little nuts in the blooming department this year.
Limelight hydrangeas are sort of the climbing rose of hydrangeas. They sprout upward and get very tall. They also like a bit of sun unlike many hydrangeas. Thanks to the removal of a dying tree from the front yard, this bush (affectionately known as Ralph by my friends for reasons that escape me) has gotten a lot more sun in the last couple of years and you can really tell the difference. Last year Ralph put out these huge, gorgeous blooms. This year, more out of curiosity than anything else, I decided not to prune him back ~ I wanted to see how big he would get. My response was a lot of growth and a  large number of blooms (I stopped counting at 50), though the blooms were smaller than last year.

You can see Ralph is over 6 feet tall in the photo below. He will definitely get pruned and a gentle shaping once he dies back for the winter. But he is rather magnificent, isn’t he?

And now it’s time to hit the nurseries to pick up some shrubs and other pretty things. Wishing all of you a lovely weekend...

The joy of coloring...

Coloring was one of my favorite things to do as a child. I read about these new coloring books for adults a few months and thought they sounded like fun but didn’t think too much more about it. Then one of my friends mentioned them to me a few weeks ago, saying she thought I would enjoy them. Yesterday I was in the book store and came across these and knew I had to have them after flipping through their lovely pages. I spent yesterday evening coloring and it was wonderful ~ so calming and enjoyable. No wonder they are so popular. If you like to color, I highly recommend giving them a try. It’s a wonderful way to create and offer your mind a little peace at the same time.

September thoughts...

I always think of September as a month of renewal ~ I suppose it has to do with starting a new school year as a child. When I came across this quote on Facebook, I thought it was worth sharing. It’s a wonderful sentiment to keep in mind any time, and particularly this month.
Wishing all of you a fabulous September...
