A planter for the Magic Shed?

Vintage bicycles have a certain charm and beauty about them, even if they are long past being ridden. I keep seeing them popping up everywhere as decor, a trend I am absolutely loving.
When I shared this photo on Facebook (which you may also have seen on Pinterest and a bunch of other places, as it seems to be everywhere), someone suggested I do this very thing for the Magic Shed. And I thought, genius ~ why didn’t that occur to me right off? I have the perfect spot for an old bike planter, right near one of the shed windows, which also happens to be crying out for a window box like the one above. Now I just have to find a vintage bike past its original usefulness so it can have a new lease on life as a lovely planter. Sounds like a great reason for a treasure hunt to me.

P.S. For those of you who don’t know the story of the Magic Shed, you can read it here.

Rooms in bloom...

The springlike weather we enjoyed this past weekend was a welcome change after all the ice and snow we endured earlier in the month. It put me in the mood for pastels and florals and bright and cheery rooms. I found these on Pinterest and thought I would share. I love all the blue in the rooms ~ so pretty and cheerful. The room in the photo at the top is so relaxed and full of charm, don’t you think? And both rooms are so full of flowers. I love the simple display of a line of glass containers with a couple of pretty blooms tucked in each jar ~ simply lovely. It’s given me an idea for my sideboard when the weather warms up and stays warm.
Wishing all of you a lovely week…

Covered in snow...

Here in the Carolinas, we are covered in snow and more is arriving every hour. We keep going back and forth between snow, sleet and freezing rain. But we are safe and warm and dry and we still have power, so all in all we have it pretty good. How’s the weather where you live?

Snow days...

We have more snow in the forecast this week. Normally I would be as delighted as Emily ~ seen here wandering around in the snow a couple of weeks ago ~ but I have so much work to do this week, the timing isn’t great. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if it snows tonight and tomorrow as they say it will.
Of course, a good old-fashioned snow day would be more than welcome, but the world doesn’t seem to know how to enjoy those anymore. It’s always go, go, go, which is kind of a shame.
If it does snow and I end up unable to get out of my neighborhood (as is usually the case in bad winter weather), I will work from home and try to make the best of it. At least I planned well and did a lot of cooking this weekend, leaving the fridge stocked with comforting winter foods like roast chicken, macaroni and cheese and shepherd’s pie, just waiting to be popped in the oven. And with the kitchen nearby, I can easily pour cup after cup of hot tea or cocoa to enjoy while I’m working at my computer. And being stuck at home is always better than being stuck on the road somewhere. I guess there’s always a silver lining.

Art for the office...

I started a great new job in January and we are encouraged to decorate our individual offices however we like ~ art, rugs, lamps, furniture, etc., which is really quite nice. I have quite a long wall in my office and I wanted to find a large piece of art to hang there. A couple of weeks ago, I spotted this one and loved it ~ it’s mixed-media tulips on canvas and a little over 5 feet long ~ but wasn’t sure I wanted to pay quite as much as they were asking. Saturday afternoon, I wandered into the store again and found the piece had been marked down a little over 50 percent. As you can see, it came home with me. And today, it’s headed into the office with me.
It’s such a cool piece of art I thought I would share it with you. I love the vivid colors, the sparkle, and of course, tulips are one of my favorites. I think it’s going to get my office decorating off to a wonderful start. What do you think?

A pretty pink addition...

I know spring is still a ways off, but I keep trying to hurry it along. I have already started changing a few things in the house to make it seem like the temperature outside is a bit more hospitable. I have been looking for a lighter throw for the sofa for the spring and summer and the other day I came across this lovely overgrown scarf that I thought would be perfect for the sofa. Yes, I really did say scarf. I love the pretty pink pattern and gauzy material so I thought, why not? It’s more for looks than anything else, but it is large enough to cover you if you just needed a little something when napping.
Right now I have it laid on top of my soft, thick cream winter throw ~ it’s still too chilly to put that away. But seeing this lovely pink addition take center stage makes me think spring is near.
Wishing all of you a lovely weekend...
