Cozy companions...

These pictures pretty much sum up my free time this winter: snuggled under a blanket on the sofa with Emily while she sleeps and I read (at least until I doze off myself). Still, it’s always nice to have a cute and cuddly companion, especially when you’re not up to doing much of anything.
Emily would want me to point out that this is one of her new heavy sweaters ~ pink, of course.
Wishing all of you a snuggly weekend...

Winter doldrums...

Oh, if only that were true these days. The last few weeks I have been so busy with a wonderful new job that it seems I can’t find any time to be inspired. I have flashes of inspiration about various projects ~ fabric designs, redecorating the bedroom, new blog topics, adding a new touch of pink to the living room ~ and then they seem to fizzle out of sheer tiredness. I have been absent from the blogging world for much of the month and I must say I miss it. I am hoping to get my new schedule completely situated and some creative time carved out here soon. All work and no play makes Eileen a dull gal.
I also want to get used to all this newness as soon as possible because I have one class left to finish for my interior design certification. That class starts at the beginning of March and by then I should be fully adjusted and firing on all cylinders again. Isn’t it funny how much changing jobs can exhaust you? Not to mention this terribly cold weather ~ it just saps the energy right out of me. If I’m not at work, it seems curling up under a blanket with a book or the latest Downton Abbey or Sherlock episode is all I can muster. I suppose it’s a sort of hibernation in a way, fighting off the winter doldrums.
I hope all of you are enjoying a lovely start to the year. I’ll be around for visits soon.
Wishing everyone a beautiful week...

Linen closet ideas...

If you are anything like me, you dream of a perfectly gorgeous linen closet. I do actually have a linen closet but it is so crammed with so many other things, the linen seems to be an afterthought. It’s in there and it’s neat, but I wouldn’t exactly call it pleasing to the eye. I have been wondering if I could come up with another solution when I came across this article on Country Living about how to organize a linen closet. They used a separate wardrobe (which is a whole other idea) and offered a list of tips and ideas that are absolutely worth reading, so I thought I would share.
I particularly like the idea of using ribbon to bundle sheets together, and their use of baskets with labels to coral necessities that aren’t exactly pretty. And I do think a tray like the one below is a wonderful idea for keeping all sorts of extra toiletries together and organized. I am definitely going to put redoing the linen closet on my list of projects for the year.
Do you have a lovely linen closet or any favorite tips for organizing one?

The beauty of Radiant Orchid...

As some of you may know, PANTONE selects a color of the year each year. Last year it was an emerald green. For 2014, it is this beautiful purple they have named Radiant Orchid.
I will admit that I never really used to care all that much for purple. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. But then the older I got, the more I began to appreciate its majesty and luxury. And while pink is still my favorite color, I do believe a lovely rich, deep purple is one of the most fabulous and versatile colors you can dress a room in.

In fact, as some of you may recall, I painted the central hall in our house in a shade similar to Radiant Orchid and bought a simple but fab purple velvet chair for this room. Does this mean I’m ahead of the trend?

Wishing all of you a lovely week, full of whatever color sends your heart aflutter...
